For 35 years, Cathy Barton and Dave Para have been working to make the most of the duet sound both vocally and with a variety of stringed instruments.Their time in Missouri and the Ozarks have given a traditional focus to their repertoire while inspiring further connections to contemporary songs, the old-time country strains of the early 20th century and the heritage of historical music of the 19th century, the Civil War and the Lewis & Clark Expedition. Cathy is a recognized master of the old-time frailing banjo style and of the hammered dulcimer. The late Roy Acuff called her his "favorite banjo player." Much of her tunes and drive, as well as Dave's inventive guitar accompaniment emerged from a vibrant Missouri fiddling tradition that features of mix of northern and southern influences.While they have great respect for the songs traditions they bear, their singing probably will never lose the echoes of folksong revival of their childhood, and they hope it never does.

Using the instruments, songs, sounds, and jokes of the middle of the 1800's, "Dr. Mason's Aeolian Minstrels" will take you back to the era of the Traveling Minstrel Show, the Second Great Awakening, and the American Civil War. Mike Mason will be on banjos of the period, Kate Cuba on vocals.
